Welcome to the City of Sydney Library Centenary Blog

Welcome to the City of Sydney Library centenary blog.  The City of Sydney Library began in 1898 as the Lending Branch of Public Library of NSW.  On 15 October 1909 Sydney Municipal Council took over management of the Lending Branch.  Over the years the library has started a bookmobile and a home library service and been located in a number of different buildings including the Queen Victoria Building.  Today the Library has eight branches located at Customs House, Haymarket, Ultimo, Glebe, Newtown, Waterloo, Surry Hills and Kings Cross, two library links at Town Hall House and Pyrmont and receives over 1 million visitors a year.

During the month of October the City of Sydney Library celebrated its centenary and as part of the celebration we invite members of the public to post their memories of the City of Sydney Library.  We will document past and current activities at the libraries in this blog as well as any interesting happenings in Sydney from past years.
